Rescue, memory, and dissemination

Museu Nacional · UFRJ · LABEDIS

In 2016, under the coordination of Professor Tânia Clemente, the Fundo Documental Curt Nimuendajú It was created at the Laboratory of Studies of Discourse, Image, and Sound (LABEDIS). With its institutional existence approved at the National Museum UFRJ, LABEDIS is anchored, in political and scientific terms, in two main bases: A space for research and reflection and A Memory Policy. Within the scope of A Space for Research and Reflection projects will be brought together that, through Discourse Analysis, integrate verbal and non-verbal aspects, with the goals of promoting seminars, extension courses, and organizing publications. Within the scope of A Memory Policy is the initiative for the creation of Documentary Funds.

With this prerogative, the FDCN was born to care for and share the history left by the German ethnologist, naturalized Brazilian, Curt Nimuendajú – one of the most important figures for the study of indigenous languages and cultures in Brazil. In the current phase, favored by the Rouanet Law (PRONAC: 249597), the FDCN leads the project “AÇÕES DE PRESERVAÇÃO DIGITAL: O olhar de Curt Nimuendajú sobre os povos originários do Brasil”, voltado para a preservação de 483 imagens capturadas pelas lentes desse grande etnólogo.
